Math Mystery #5
Last night we took a taxi from the Lincoln Memorial to Chinatown. The first mile cost $3.00, each additional mile cost $1.50. Our fare was $10.50. How many miles did we travel? How much would a 15 mile trip cost? Write a general rule so you can find the cost for any number of miles. If I have $7.00, how far can I travel?

Math Mystery #1
This map states that it will take me 15 hours and 9 minutes to drive 950.2 miles. If the average walking speed is 4 miles per hour. How long would it take me to walk to Washington DC?
Luckily, the desk-duck and I are traveling by plane, but first we have to drive to St. Louis. We plan to leave Columbia at 1:00pm. Our plane arrives in Baltimore at 8:05pm. The train from Baltimore leaves at 9:00pm and we will arrive in DC at 10:30pm. Would it have been faster to drive? (Don't forget to take into account the change in time zones.)
Answer these mystery questions and you will be rewarded!!

Meet our team duck...
4-17-09 I'm ready to pack up!
Hey Smithton Wildcats! I'm getting so excited about my trip to Washington DC. I'm sharing this blog with you so you can follow me on my journey as I check out the highlights of our nation's capital. I'll be in DC Sunday-Wednesday learning about math, but I'll be out-and-about seeing the sights during my free time. I hope you'll enjoying following me around the town.
I'll miss you guys while I'm gone!!
